Your boat''s water temperature gauge provides important information about your engine. The gauge indicates your engine operating temperature and tells you whether the engine is in danger of overheating. Unfortunately, the marine environment can cause the gauge or the sender to fail. This failure leaves you in the dark about your engine''s cooling system. Successful troubleshooting and repair can ...

20150412· That''s strange, the buzzer/warning sender I had on my last outboard looked exactly like the one you are saying is for the temp guage. It was part number F5H072. I''ll, check my other head for the sensor you are saying is for the buzzer.

20110104· Connect the black lead of the digital ohm meter to a solid grounding. This can be any solid piece of metal. Next, remove the wire from sensor terminal and connect the red lead to the terminal end of the coolant temperature sensor. Before turning the meter on, set the digital reading to the 20K range.

20170410· Water temp high of 171 degrees . Pulled new t stat today just because , and it opens at about 150 degrees. Checked the thermoswitch and it checked fine with voltmeter per Yamaha spec. Checked engine temp sensor and it was out of spec per Yamaha it was below the resistance spec at 68 degrees , and above at 212 degrees .
20120826· I decided to eliminate the temp sensor from the picture, so I cut the wire just above the sensor on the back of the motor (color=tan with blue line) removed the sensor and put it in the glove box. The sensor I removed is a spring with a small, flat battery sized piece of metal behind the a rubber seal with the wire hole in it. I assume this is the correct sensor, as it was pointed out to me by ...

20190827· Suzuki 300 temperature. Sorry in advance for the long post. Twin 2017 300s. Just had the 300 hr service completed. The starboard engine appeared to be overheating (or at least hotter than the port engine). Was running 5000 rpm. Port engine was at 140, stbd at 158. Then at 970 rpm port at 142, stbd at 165. Peeing strong, waterflow looked good.

At about 86 F (30 C), you should get around 24K ohms. Plug in the sensor electrical connector. Start the engine and let it idle for about 20 minutes or until the cooling fan comes on to allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Turn off the engine. Unplug the IAT sensor electrical connector.
A more precise way to check temperature would be to buy an infrared temperature sensor and measure each cylinder head temperature. My 2003 Mercury 250 EFI only runs at about 120 degrees under normal operating conditions. If temperature at the cylinder head is normal and the temperature alarm is still sounding then there may be a fault in the alarm system. You will need a manual to work …
This is not a critical reading but nice to know each time you check. If the water temp was 32f then I would not expect the same temps elsewhere on the engine but if it’s within 58 degrees all your other readings should fall in line. Every spot I measure on an engine gets a corresponding number and a dot made with a Sharpie marker. I use the dot so I can get repeatability whenever I aim the ...
Never operate your outboard out of the water unless you provide a source of cooling water. Use the motor''s flushing port or connect a flushing attachment to a garden hose and placing the attachment over the cooling water inlets. You may also immerse the motor in a motor test tub filled with water so that the cooling water inlets are submerged.
